Projecting the Right Image

A former apprentice has been appointed by the training company which helped him into work to lead its rebranding exercise.

It was Access Training which secured Philip Lowery’s first job as a junior designer in 1993. And now, as owner manager of brand consultancy, Projector, he’s been commissioned to develop a new image for his former mentors.

When Philip was approached to tender for the project he jumped at the chance saying: “The company was a great help to me when I was beginning my career and I was delighted to be given the chance to help it now with the next stage of its development.”

After being helped into the world of design work Philip completed a BTEC National Certificate in Design and went on to achieve an HNC and ONC, working for several of the region’s top consultancies before going it alone in 2002.

Having been successful in the bidding process Philip has worked closely with the Access Training management team to design and develop a new brand identity and associated logos and images for the company.

Established in 1989, Access Training has grown to become one of the North East’s top work based training providers. With an annual turnover in excess of £1.3 million it regularly works with over 150 local businesses to develop their staff and provide effective business solutions through training.

Earlier this year, managing director Malcolm Armstrong completed a six figure management buy out and is planning significant expansion to increase the number of learners by 50% - from 500 to 750 a year.

Key to this development will be relocation to the new Gateshead Skills Academy being constructed on the Team Valley. Access Training will be one of four training providers moving into the purpose built facility in June.

At that point the company will unveil its new brand identity which Philip’s team at Projector is currently developing: “These are very exciting times for us so it’s quite apt that a former apprentice is helping us with the project. Philip is a real success story in his own right and an inspiration to the many apprentices we currently work with,” said Malcolm Armstrong.

“The new headquarters and new look will help us to build on the firm foundations we’ve laid. We are one of the first private training providers in the region to undergo an Ofsted inspection in which we achieved good ratings in all key areas. In parallel, we gained Customer First accreditation - a quality mark for excellence in customer service”.

“All of this puts us in a great position to expand the business at a time when investment in training to develop a skilled and flexible workforce has never been greater.”
